How does the filter work?

Incoming articles are put in three categories:

1. ignore
2. bad
3. good

Articles are ignored for the following reasons:

• The article is behind a Paywall.
• The article has no pictures.
• The article belongs to a category not relevant for BetterNews (e.g. sports, editorials, reviews, weather reports, lottery results, yellow press gossip etc.)

Categorization into good or bad is automated using a naive Bayes classifier, the same technology used to filter email spam.
